Monty Bennett

About Me

Hotel magnate Monty Bennett hails from Henderson County and Dallas, Texas. Together with his teams, he owns, manages, and operates more than one hundred hotels all over the United States, thanks to Ashford, Inc., Ashford Hospitality Trust, and Braemar Hotels and Resorts.

The origins of his collection of luxury real estate can be traced back to the latter half of the 1960s. Over the subsequent decades, Bennett has taken the family business public and increased the number of hotels it operates from six to over 130. In addition, he and his teams run 13 resort properties spread across six states and the United States Virgin Islands.

Monty received his degree from Cornell University. The hotel magnate was one of seven children raised in Houston, Texas, during his childhood. He currently splits his time between Dallas, Texas, and Athens, Texas, which is only an hour's drive southeast of the city that he and his rapidly expanding family have called home for more than three decades.

Monty is the chief executive officer of Ashford, Inc., in addition to his roles as chairman and founder of Braemar Hotels & Resorts, Ashford Hospitality Trust, and Ashford Hotels & Resorts.

As an offshoot of Ashford Hospitality Trust, Braemar Hotels & Resorts was established in 2013 by Monty Bennett. Thanks to his seasoned leadership and guidance, the corporation now has 13 property holdings. These holdings include two properties that have become synonymous with the Ritz-Carlton brand: The Ritz-Carlton St. Thomas in the United States Virgin Islands and The Ritz-Carlton Lake Tahoe in Nevada County, California.

Following the personal tenets that Bennett upholds, Braemar Hotels & Resorts has embraced five philosophies that serve as the foundation for the organization. These five guiding principles are tenacity, engagement, profitability, innovation, and ethics.

Bennett, a well-known hotel magnate, founded Ashford Hospitality Trust in 2003. The trust's investments are focused primarily on high-end, all-inclusive hotels. In 2013, Ashford Hospitality Trust began trading on public markets. The organization currently owns over 110 pieces of real estate, some of which are signature properties. These include The Ritz-Carlton Atlanta, the nearby W Hotel Atlanta, and the Renaissance Nashville Hotel.

Over the past half-century, Ashford Hospitality Trust and the companies that eventually became its forebears have built extensive legacies in the hospitality industry. Chairman and founder Bennett, along with the rest of his team, has tremendous experience in the hospitality industry, which they have gained through an abundance of hotel cycles, disciplined market activities, and value-added asset management efforts. Consequently, the trust now has a record of highly successful financial transactions.

The Ashford Hospitality Trust and Braemar Hotels & Resorts both adhere to the same five philosophies that guide their operations. In addition, it is involved in the community regularly, acting both as a partner and a contributor, and it exudes a strong and enduring philanthropic spirit. In other areas, the company participates in major company-wide charitable events, such as its annual Community Service Day, to positively support organizations that assist those less fortunate.

Ashford, Inc., another one of Monty Bennett's businesses, was established in 2014. Its primary function is to act as a consultant for Braemar Hotels & Resorts and Ashford Hospitality Trust. Ashford, Inc. is a company that specializes in alternative asset management, and its primary mission is to supply Braemar Hotels & Resorts and Ashford Hospitality Trust with global asset management, investment management, and other services related to these areas of expertise.

In addition, we also serve a wider portfolio of strategic operating businesses and others in the hospitality and real estate industries simultaneously.

Under Bennett's leadership, Ashford, Inc. further benefits from the presence of a specialized department for hospitality products and services. Because of this forward-thinking department, the company is in a strong position to invest in operating businesses that provide services to the hospitality industry. Ashford, Inc. also serves as an accelerator for the growth of these companies by utilizing a variety of third-party programs and several platforms that are unique to the company.

In 1989, Monty completed his studies at the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University and emerged with both a bachelor's degree and a distinction. In addition, he earned a second master's degree from Cornell University's S.C. Johnson Graduate School of Management, a prestigious Ivy League research university in Ithaca, New York. His master's degree is in business administration, and he received it there.

He has continued his membership in the Cornell Hotel Society throughout his entire life.

Monty Bennett has been in the hospitality industry for over 30 years and has experience in virtually every facet of the business. This includes hotel real estate, finance, ownership, operations, development, asset management, and project management, in addition to a variety of other highly specialized fields of knowledge.

He uses the decades of professional experience accumulated to concentrate intently on executive-level hospitality growth, forecasts, economics, news, and other insights.

During his decades-long career, Bennett has held leadership positions within several prominent industry associations and at Braemar Hotels & Resorts, Ashford Hospitality Trust, and Ashford, Inc. He has also been a member of several other high-profile industry associations. Throughout his work, he has contributed to more than one hundred charitable organizations, nonprofit groups, and other worthy causes due to his deep-seated commitment to philanthropy.
